Hello Preschool Families!

This week we welcomed home 22 new best friends with the cutest dimpled hands and twinkling eyes! What a magical week it was! The children were full of excitement to meet their teachers, new classmates and explore the place that will soon become their second home! To ease their worries and hearts we read the story “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn. A story about a raccoon named Chester who is entering his first day of school, as most, he is nervous and afraid to be away from Mommy, but with a kiss in his hand and a little reassurance he is on his way with the understanding that your family’s love is always in your heart whether they are near or far, just like yours!

The kiddos are quickly learning each others names with some help from a little tune titled “Everybody’s Gotta A Name”. Ask them to sing it for you, I promise, you too will be singing it in the shower or on your way to work! The children are really settling in nicely and transitioning well during their daily routines.

The students spent time exploring all aspects of our campus spaces whether it was daily discovery, Spanish with Miss Meredith or music with Miss Dena within our classroom walls. Muddy hands and sticky fingers in our outdoor space during center time, the gym with Miss Dodd or mulch filled shoes on the playground. They greeted each space with eagerness and wonder.

Miss Liz also visited our classroom for art time. She introduced them to various ways to make lines. Straight lines, squiggly lines, lines that go up and down and lines that go all around! The kiddos chose a circle of their favorite choice of color and were then provided various mediums such as crayons, markers, oil pastels and sharpies to make their first marks of the year. This will be an ongoing piece of art work throughout the school year, but for now, they are beautifully displayed in our windows.

To wrap up our last day of the week the children were adorned in colorful bandannas and we met with the rest of our Early Childhood friends for a popsicle party! The squeals of delight were more than our teacher hearts could handle.

We are so excited to begin this journey of learning with your children. While we not only relish in fostering the love of learning for your children, we also encourage the children to learn in all different ways, to allow children to find passion in places people would otherwise find mundane, call it colorful learning if you will! To represent this way of learning that Wheeling Country Day School has so beautifully crafted we ask that your children continue to wear their bandannas whether on their back packs, clothing or wherever they see fit!

We cannot wait to continue this journey of learning in color whether it be in or out of the lines.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Miss Arden, Miss Meredith and Miss Airry
