Welcome Back!

WCDS Early Childhood’s popsicle party on Thursday was a great way to kick off our school’s theme for the year, Learn In Color! The children wore colorful bandanas and enjoyed a summer treat in the amphitheater. They also added a personal touch to the Learn in Color Mural located outside of the gym.

The children spent the week getting acclimated to their new classroom space. They are beginning to pick up on the structure and routine of JK.  The morning starts by hanging up backpacks, finding name rocks, and signing in, followed by discovery play. We have noticed that there are many inspiring artists and master builders during Daily Discovery. The children created a city using different loose parts in the block station and they loved hanging their various paintings and drawings throughout the classroom to decorate the new space.

The class read “If I Were the Teacher… a Book About Class Rules” by Dr. Ellen Vaughter, and brainstormed ideas that will soon become our Classroom Pledge.

In Art Class with Miss Liz, after reading “The Day the Crayons Quit” by Drew Daywalt, the children talked about different ways to draw a line and experimented with crayons to create marks and lines. In music, we sang fun and familiar songs with our new music teacher, Miss Dena. The children were excited to see a familiar face, Miss Meredith for Spanish.

What a great first week. Looking forward to many weeks to learn in color!
