Week two of 4th Grade is in the books! We dove head first into place value, prewriting our memoirs, 4th Grade Rats, and typing lessons. Memoir writing has become an exciting time as we had our first author’s chairs to begin sharing their writings. While reading Fourth Grade Rats the students identified character traits for the main character as well as created their own questions to lead our discussions. In our U.S. Government Deep Dives the students researched the three branches of government and presented their findings in class. They led meaningful discussions to deepen their knowledge. In our Brainology Deep Dive, Mrs. Rutherford and Mr. Jividen discussed the importance of having a Growth Mindset. The children learned that brain neurons create pathways whenever they try something new and more pathways make denser brains. In math, we worked on reading and writing large numbers in standard, expanded, and word form. Next week we’ll compare and round numbers. Along with writing their memoirs, the students are learning different forms of figurative language. They loved making words from sounds as they worked on onomatopoeia, and they are honing their skills with similes.

As we look at the weather for next week, we see it’s going to another HOT week! We’re planning on going into the creek next Wednesday, September 6th. The kids may wear play clothes that day. Please send in creek shoes and a towel (if you haven’t already sent one).

Quick Reminders:

  • Our classroom doors open at 8:20 am. The kids enjoy coming in and getting started with their morning work.
  • Classes start promptly at 8:45 am. It is beneficial for the students to arrive earlier than our start time in order for them to settle in and prepare for learning.
  • No classes on Monday, September 4. Classes resume at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 5.

We hope you enjoy the holiday weekend!
