Place value, a novel study, a creek day, and more… Fourth Grade is full of exciting new adventures. In math, the students continued with place and value with large numbers. They also practiced reading numbers in the millions and billions. Next week, we’ll compare and order large numbers while using some hands-on activities and games.

Our grammar lessons involved learning about common nouns, pronouns, and verbs. They are doing well with identifying these parts of speech in a sentence. To tie in with our writing lessons, they’ve been learning different forms of figurative language. Ask your child about onomatopoeia, similies, and metaphors. These lessons are helping them paint a colorful picture in their memoirs.

We completed our first novel study of “Fourth Grade Rats” and learned to ask thick (detailed) questions to enhance our discussions. By the end of the novel, students were leading our morning discussions. We also dove into discovering character traits of the main characters and watched as they developed new ones. Our memoirs are coming along as we have started teacher conferences and our final drafts. In our U.S. Government deep dive the students chose members of the three branches of government to research and learn about. They will continue and share their research next week! In Brainology, they continued playing a “Guess Who” game about famous people who demonstrated tremendous perseverance with outstanding results. Walt Disney, Michael Jordan, Milton Hershey, Abraham Lincoln, The Beatles, and Albert Einstein were a few of the people we discussed with a growth mindset. In SEL, we talked about how to be, “bucket fillers” vs. “bucket dippers.” We looked at a scenario and discussed our different perspectives and reactions.

Join us for Parent Night on Tuesday, September 12, at 6:30 p.m.! We’ll discuss our routines, what we’re learning, and our hopes and goals for your child. We are thrilled to share Fourth Grade with all of you.

Below is the Save the Date for Grandparents’ Day, which will take place on October 5th, 2023. Also, picture day is coming on September 25th for grades 1-5. An order form went home today with the eldest child in each grade, but we’ve also included a copy below. Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Thanks for sharing your innovative, talented, and creative children with us!
