Hoodies and shorts, foursquare and football, Starbucks and pepperoni rolls- there’s lots going on here at the middle school. Soon, we’ll be sipping pumpkin spice lattes from the window as we observe putters raging under the turning leaves of fall! Please make sure your students pick up a copy of the graphic novel, When Stars Are Scattered by Victoria Jamieson and Omar Mohamed. Also, don’t forget fill out and send picture order forms with your students!

  • English w/ Mr. Rouse – This week, we wrapped up The Giver and did Aimsweb testing. Since there isn’t an epilogue for The Giver, I’m having the students write an epilogue to expand upon a cliffhanger ending.
  • Pre-Algebra w/ Mrs. Boldrick – We spent a lot of time this week reviewing adding and subtracting integers along with applying the Laws of Exponents. The students worked hard at understanding the steps and processes. We took a break from exponents and moved on to learning the Distributive Property. We’ll continue practicing this skill next week.
  • Algebra w/ Mrs. Murray – this week in Algebra, we covered sets and operations, and various operations with matrices.
  • Science w/ Mrs. Farris – In science we continued to become more familiar with the compound microscope’s field of view and magnification. After practicing, students were ready for their first living specimen. The hay infusions we started last week did not disappoint! Students worked well together to view each other’s findings. From “its moving!” … “you have to check this out!” … “it looks like a worm!” students were excited to observe microorganisms. Next week in class, we will learn what microbes we found and prepare for our first test.
