“Home is where your story begins.”

As we continued to find new discoveries about ourselves this week, we turned our focus to our homes and our families. After reading A Family Is a Family Is a Family by Sara O’Leary, the students were eager to share who lives in their home with them. The list is quite extensive and no pet was left in the dark.

Our self-portraits were expanded upon as the students drew their homes using oil pastels. More dimension was created as the students carefully glued yarn pieces to each of the original lines that they made. No detail went unnoticed as we saw doors, windows, shingles, and bushes come to life. As their pieces dried, the students revisited their acrostic name poems. They carefully “stitched” each letter together using pipe cleaners, yet another component that will be added to their self-portraits. We love how their work is slowly coming together and cannot wait to have it on display to warm up our classroom.

In Phonics, we added the letter Ll and the sight words “the” and “to”. Math we continue to practice our numbers. We will start a round of Math centers next week focusing on counting, writing our numbers, and sequencing.

We hope you have a great weekend and see you on Monday!
