We are gearing up for Grandparent’s Day which will be on Thursday, October 5th. The event will be from 12:30 – 2:30 pm. Please note that the times are different if you have a child in the early childhood grades (Preschool to 1st grade). This event is meant for a special person in your child’s life. The day is not limited to grandparents. It can be aunts, uncles, friends, or parents. Any “special people” are welcome. To help us plan accordingly, RSVP by September 29 to office@wcdsedu.com or to your child’s teacher with the names of all the special people who will be visiting that day. We look forward to a vibrant day celebrating the special people in your child’s life.  If you have any questions or need further information, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office at 304-232-2430.

We welcome the cool mornings and warm afternoons as perfect temperatures to get outside for exploration, learning, and play. In math, the students practiced their addition skills by adding large numbers in the millions and adding multiple multi-digit numbers. This practice gave them confidence in their math abilities. We saw many fist pumps and heard numerous shouts of “Yes!” as they received a star on their paper. Next week, we’ll move to subtraction with regrouping. For grammar, they practiced writing unique and descriptive sentences using adjectives. They all enjoyed thinking about different words to describe a particular noun. “He lives in a green, huge, gigantic, silly, strong, and wild house” was one of the sentences they created. We did the same activity while learning about alliteration in figurative language. “The squirmy squirrel squawked while he squirted squash on Squirtle.”

Quick Reminders:

  • Monday, September 25, is picture day. Please send your picture form and payment with your child. The students may wear their school uniform or an outfit of their choice.
  • Part of each night’s homework assignment is charging and preparing their computers for the next day.
  • Please check your child’s yellow folder each evening. The pockets are now labeled “Stay at Home” or “Return to School”. Anything in the “Stay at Home” side should be removed.

We hope you enjoy the weekend!
