Wow what a week! First, I am so grateful for the parents who attended class this week. I don’t think you can find another school in the world with parents who are willing to engage in the learning process on such short notice. Second, kudos to the cross country runners on their final race! I beamed with pride as Coach Arden talked to me this about this season. No 8th grade food/beverage draft this week, because I am upset about the Packers. Shame on you, Maddox for having no compassion in this situation.

*A note from Jessica Maxwell* (Didn’t read the note on the Polaroid picture)

Thank you so much for allowing me to capture your children at Wheeling Country Day School.  Two years ago we had sweltering heat, last year brought the cold and this year we had the perfect temperature! Finally! I had a blast with them.

Class Updates

  • English w/ Mr. Rouse – Students continued their work on thesis paragraphs with exercise #4 on dress codes. With the weekly thesis paragraphs, I’m basically helping 8th to follow a formula and generate introductory paragraphs. We are also nearing the end of I Must Betray You- the students have been having a hard time putting the book down!
  • Algebra w/ Mrs. Murray-We began the week with problem solving strategies and modular arithmetic (for example, clock time math).  We spent the remainder of the week reviewing and preparing for our quiz next Tuesday, October 3.  Friday, we played math games, including Farkle and Sushi go.
  • Music w/ Mrs. Chelsey – On Wednesday, students presented their four bar notation compositions, and learned a new 1,2,3 rhythm game. Friday was all about vibrations and sound waves! We used several mediums including air, water with tuning forks, and salt on a homemade chladni plate to show how sound travels, as well as how we can see it (cymatics)!
