Hello Families!!

In math we focused on the inverse of addition: subtraction! Place value helped serve as our guide for learning proper alignment of subtraction problems. We even tried a few misaligned problems to show how easy it would be to reach the wrong difference (answer).  The kiddos also learned how to prove that their subtraction problems were correct by…. Adding! See if your child can show you an example! We changed gears in ELA this week. The kiddos learned morphology. Morphology deals with prefixes, base words, and suffixes. This week, we really focused on base words and suffixes. The suffixes taught were -s and -es. This concept even helped us when learning grammar this week! Kiddos learned all about singular and plural nouns and how they have either an -s or -es as well! Ask your kiddo what the word morpheme means! We wrapped up the main idea skill by playing a mystery bag game. This is where students had to determine the main idea of each bag by determining the mystery items inside.

In zoology this week, we moved onto a new class of vertebrates. They are warm-blooded and covered with hair and fur. They can live on any continent! We, as humans, are also this type of vertebrate! Ask your child to tell you what they learned about mammals! National Parks has set up base camp on our project. We can’t wait to see all of the cool facts and information that each student will present at the end of the month!

Last, but certainly not least, we all had a blast on Grandparents/Special Friends Day! The room was full of special people in our lives, with whom we made many happy memories. We loved every minute of it!
