We spent a wonderful afternoon with all of the student’s “Grandpeople” on Thursday. Meeting and getting to know some of the special people in your child’s life was a treat. It was an afternoon of cherished memories. Take a look (below in the pictures) at the recipe poem our 4th graders wrote. Then, with their grandpeople, they wrote their own recipe poem about their own family. We hope they shared it with you!

As the weather turns into chilly fall days this weekend, we were treated to warm summer-like temperatures, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Our time in the creek on Wednesday was filled with buckets of water, found fish, spiders, and even an elusive snake. We were so glad to have a warm day to enjoy the wonders of nature in the creek.

In math, we continued with subtraction using large numbers and regrouping. The students learned how to use addition to check their subtraction answers. This skill will give them independence and confidence, knowing that they can check their answers on their own. Next week, we’ll subtract with zeros and learn how to borrow across zeros. In grammar, we continued to practice identifying verbs and adverbs. Ask them about their adverb poem that they shared with their grandperson,

The students are digging deep into, “Holes” and practicing leading their own discussions. They are identifying story elements, creating their own questions, and researching unknown words. We look forward to continuing with this novel study next wee.

In Government, we continued working on their bills. We broke the process down even further so that each bill will have a chance of becoming a law. We will be continuing this next week and are looking ahead to visit real government officials and learn from them. There will be more information to come on this.

Monday’s Brainology class focused on Feedback vs. Criticism. We discussed how teachers, coaches, parents, and friends often give feedback to encourage improvement in an area. We also practiced ways to positively accept that feedback to be the best version of ourselves. On Wednesday, we discussed Time Management and how we can sometimes overestimate or underestimate how much time an activity is going to take.
