After the long Fall Break weekend, the kids came back to us quiet and tired, but it didn’t take much time for them to rev up and gain their energy for learning.

This week in math, we practiced doing subtraction across many zeros. They caught on quickly! We’ll be moving into the multi-digit multiplication process soon. Now is a great time to hone in on their basic multiplication facts. Please take 10 minutes a day to review these facts. Some good times to get practice in are during a car ride, while sitting watching a sibling’s soccer game, or having them work with a sibling.

In grammar, we are working on the parts of speech – nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, articles, conjunctions, and prepositions.  They are improving at identifying each part of a sentence. Next, we’ll work on sentences and punctuation.

Holes has proved to be an exciting novel study! This week we revisited some important reading skills such as summarizing, creating discussion questions, comprehension, and vocabulary.

We tried our spelling test through a Google Doc on Friday. The students rose to the challenge of trying to type and organize their spelling tests online. Check in with them and see if it caused any frustrations. It should’ve! The main goal was practicing working their computer and staying on one screen.

Monday at our Northen Branch Classroom!

We have some exciting adventures coming up Monday, October 16th 2023. Fourth Grade will be spending the day at our Northern campus. Both pickup and drop off will take place there. Drop off will be no earlier than 8:30. If your child is in before care, they will be transported to the Northern campus. Dismissal will be very similar. Pickup will take place at Northern starting at 3:00. If your child is in aftercare, they will be transported back to school. Please let us know if your child will be before care and/or aftercare.

Councilwoman, Rosemary Ketchum, has offered to host us downtown to aid in our Government deep dive from 10:00-11:00 am. She will be giving us a tour of some government buildings, answering questions, and allowing the students to see where our local government takes place.

We will be walking to the City Government Complex from Northern and returning the same way.The walks are very close to our campus and will only take about 2-5 minutes each. 3 teachers will be with the students during this time as well as most of the day.

We are asking that each student bring their own packed lunch on this day.

We hope you can attend our Branch Night at the middle school next week, Tuesday, October 17, at 6:00 PM. This is a great opportunity to take a look and experience what our middle school is all about.

Branch Night: Reimagine Middle School…In Color!

Join us on Tuesday, October 17th at 6:00 pm for our very first Branch Night: Reimagine Middle School…In Color! WCDS’ Inaugural Fall Family Fest!

October 31st – Fall Family Fest: Haven’t you always wished that there was a field day in the Fall?  A chance to come hang out with your kids, their teachers, and fellow parents and enjoy the changing leaves around campus?  Us too!  So we decided to make it happen with Fall Family Fest.  The WCDS Inaugural Fall Family Fest will be held on October 31st from 1:20-3:00 for 2nd-8th grades.

After lunch, children can change into costumes before boarding a bus to our Wheeling Park Branch Campus. If your child can wear their costume to school without distracting their learning, they are welcome to wear it in the morning. We will do two bus trips to transport the children to the park. Parents, please join us for an afternoon of fun at the middle school branch campus anytime after 1:00.  We will begin our parade around the pool as soon as the children arrive at the park led by our grand marshal’s Ms. H and Maddie Kirchner, the winner of the Grand Marshal auction prize. Then, the children will rotate through different stations with their classmates.

Quick Reminders:

Have a wonderful weekend!
