We are Buggin Out in SK!

Upcoming Dates and Announcements:

Tuesday, October 31st – Fall Festival!
Haven’t you always wished that there was a field day in the Fall?  A chance to come hang out with your kids, their teachers, and fellow parents and enjoy the changing leaves around campus?  Us too!  So we decided to make it happen with Fall Family Fest.  The WCDS Inaugural Fall Family Fest will be held on October 31st from 9:30-11:00 for PS-1st grades.  The event will begin with a costume parade around our big loop at 9:30 led by our grand marshal’s Ms. H and Raegan Moore, the winner of the Grand Marshal auction prize. Your children should come dressed in costumes. You can drop your child off at the regular time and enjoy coffee in the gym with your fellow parents while you wait for the parade to begin. The children will rotate with their classes through four different stations from 10:00 – 11:00. You are welcome to take your child home after the festivities end around 11:00, or they can return to their classrooms for the remainder of the day. If your child plans to stay for the rest of the day, please send a change of clothes.  We look forward to seeing you all for our first Fall Family Fest!

Friday, November 3rd– No School (ISACS conference)

While this week was a day shorter, that did not keep us from having a full week of new learning. After the high of Grandparent’s Day, we wanted to show our appreciation to the special people who spent some time with us. The students learned about letter writing, including how to use Dear and From. We even included a special photograph in their letter. Some silly photos were also added to our permanent montage of love for our all of the special people in our lives.

Miss Maddie took us on a shape adventure this week in Math. The students took part in a shape scavenger hunt around the classroom, marking tallies for each one of the shapes that they found. They then created a shape monster out of circles, squares, triangles, and even hexagons. We then spent some time learning about sides and corners, realizing that 2D shapes have the same number of sides as corners.

Explorations brought on a new unit of study…BUGS! The students have been enjoying lifting up logs and overturning pavers to find creepy crawly critters. We created a KWL chart (What We Know, What We Want to Learn, and What We Learned) to kick us off. We then watched some videos and examined a few specific bugs to try and answer some of our questions. Do you know what an exoskeleton is? We sure do! Our studies will continue next week as we learn more about their habitats.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend and see you on Monday!
