We read our final chapters of Holes together as a class on Tuesday. The students were then “sentenced” to a couple days at Camp Green Lake to complete their final project. They were given various nicknames just as the characters in the book had to start their journey. First up was building shovels to dig holes. The students designed, created, and tested their own digging tools. After digging holes with a partner, they were then asked to self reflect on their creation and decide whether or not it was an efficent tool to dig a hole with. They solved puzzles to decode artifacts and checked their knowledge by filling in blanks of a story summary. Lastly, we had to watch the movie as a class and discuss the differences and similarities between the book and movie.

This week in Brainology class, the students became the teachers. The children worked together to create a Growth Mindset lesson plan that they will teach to another grade. We know that one of the best ways to learn is by being able to teach the material. They went right to work brainstorming ideas and getting started on their lesson. We will continue to work on these next week. In our Government class, the students went through the entire process of writing and passing a bill through an online simulation. They celebrated when their bills were passed and helped a friend when they needed to add a clause. In SEL, the students were split into two groups, boys and girls. The girls made friendship bracelets for each other with encouraging words on them. We were joined by our student interns and special guest, Mrs. Wallace, who is one of our 5th grade teachers. The girls shared their favorite colors, food, and etc. to find things they had in common with each other. Meanwhile, the boys were working on teamwork building exercises and ended their day with a classic game of two hand touch football.

The class started a Halloween math project this week. They are solving a series of math puzzles and piecing them together. They learn collaboration and teamwork as they work together to complete each challenge. They’ll finish this project by Halloween.

WCDS’ Inaugural Fall Family Fest!

October 31st – Fall Family Fest: Haven’t you always wished that there was a field day in the Fall?  A chance to come hang out with your kids, their teachers, and fellow parents and enjoy the changing leaves around campus?  Us too!  So we decided to make it happen with Fall Family Fest.  The WCDS Inaugural Fall Family Fest will be held on October 31st from 1:20-3:00 for 2nd-8th grades.

After lunch, children can change into costumes before boarding a bus to our Wheeling Park Branch Campus. If your child can wear their costume to school without distracting their learning, they are welcome to wear it in the morning. We will do two bus trips to transport the children to the park. Parents, please join us for an afternoon of fun at the middle school branch campus anytime after 1:00.  We will begin our parade around the pool as soon as the children arrive at the park led by our grand marshals Ms. H and Maddie Kirchner, the winner of the Grand Marshal auction prize. Then, the children will rotate through different stations with their classmates.

We hope you had a great weekend!
