  • November 21 – First Day of Thanksgiving Break. Early Dismissal at 12:30 pm. No aftercare.

Important Reminders:

  • Students need to have a jacket, gloves, and hat packed every day as the weather continues to drop.
  • A gentle reminder that we often do not have snack until 10:00 am. If your child is not eating breakfast prior to the start of school, they may not get a chance to have a snack until mid morning. Not having breakfast and requiring a snack in the middle of our morning classes can be disruptive to our learning.
  • Please email both teachers: kwallace@wcdsedu.com and kkramer@wcdsedu.com

It was a busy, yet spooky week here at WCDS.  We had a blast out at our inaugural Fall Fest at the Middle School and hosted a (nearly) flawless Haunted House for our 2-4th grade students. We loved seeing so many parents and families in attendance as you got to see your children in action. The WCDS 8th graders and Middle School team did an excellent job of hosting us, and we are excited to spend more time in Wheeling Park next week for our Bring a Friend Day and Color Run! This week also was the start of a new adventure – all school announcements! Brynn, Frankie, and Addison braved the first round, and made an announcement to the entire school at our school meeting on Monday! They proudly and loudly informed everyone about our Haunted House, and led them through the Pledge of Allegiance and alma matter. Great job you three!

Math News:

We finished our unit on multiplying decimals, and we are reentering the world of division. Students reviewed the rules of long division and are realizing now more than ever how important it is to have fluency with your multiplication facts. We will continue with our review next week and soon start adding in the decimals! Any chance you have to talk to your child about decimals in the real world, please do! Getting gas, purchasing at the grocery store, you name it!

Language Arts Recap:

  • Working on a grammar unit on nouns
  • Continuing class novel “Out of My Mind”. Students should be sure they are completed with Chapter 11 and ready to start Chapter 12 on Monday!
  • Continued work on our personalized script of the upcoming Holiday Show!

Playgrounds and Parks Deep Dive Summary:

Our transition from playgrounds to park has occurred seamlessly and the students are researching a national park of their choice. Ask your child what park they have, where it’s located, and why they chose to research that particular park. We also made a trip to the third grade on Wednesday where they presented to us about national parks! When our research is complete we will return the favor and host the third grade for a presentation of our own!

Creek Side Deep Dive Summary:

Students continued working on their presentations and research of their favorite part of the creek so far. We only had one class this week due to Halloween, but the passion for their research continues to thrive. Many students are making online review games. Ask them to test out their lesson!
