Our 29 Hours of Giving was a complete success! Thanks to all of you, 4th grade and the entire school hit the 100% participation mark. WOW. That is amazing. All of you are AMAZING.

In math, we started learning the process of 2-digit times 2-digit multiplication. The students are catching on quickly. We can’t stress enough the importance of your child knowing their multiplication facts with quick recall. Knowing these facts makes the process so much easier! We started a turkey math challenge using their new multiplication skills. We’ll finish up on Monday and Tuesday.

In language arts, we took our comprehension skills from fiction to non-fiction. Students read and answered comprehension questions about two animals, the quokka, and the alligator. They restated their questions in their answers to form a complete thought. This skill will be practiced and expanded as the year goes on. We also continued learning vocabulary. To make studying an exciting time at home, make it into a game night! I will be sending home a list of resources after the break for you to utilize with your student.

A note from Mrs. Farris for Science – Hello, 4th grade! We had a fun start to the embryology deep dive. A ball toss introduced the topic, students, and what they wanted to learn. Followed by a surprise flashlight inspection of their hands revealed we spread “salmonella” through the classroom. We made handwashing posters to express the importance of washing hands when handling raw eggs and live chicks. Our class split into 6 flocks and had fun with a STEM cup stacking challenge that emphasized communication and teamwork among peers.

Our innovations deep dive started this week as well. Students were challenged to think of the most important innovation and explain why. Then we shared our favorites as well. Students then made a timeline of different innovations and saw how the world changed over time.

  • No backpacks are necessary for Tuesday. Please remember that there will NOT be aftercare following our early dismissal at 12:30 PM.
  • Progress reports are now available on Veracross. If you have any questions or difficulty logging on to the Parent Portal, please contact Asylnn Belancic at abelancic@wcdsedu.com.
