Well, we’ve almost made it to Thanksgiving Break. Objectively it is the best holiday. Food, Family, and Football are tough to beat. I did an informal poll of the eighth grade and way too many of them said that stuffing is the best Thanksgiving food. I’d love to understand how they could pass up the mashed potatoes, homemade noodles, or whatever meat is available to land on stuffing, but to each their own. The eighth grade drew names for their upcoming “secret santa” exchange and their teacher isn’t feeling left out at all.

  • English w/ Mr. Rouse- Students continued their reading of We Are Not Free and started working on thesis paragraphs again. One more day to go!
  • Algebra w/ Mrs. Murray-In algebra this week, we solved multi-step inequalities and compound inequalities.  Friday, we worked on Thanksgiving logic puzzles.
  • Pre-Algebra w/ Mrs. Boldrick – The students learned, practiced, and practiced some more, solving one-step equations with addition and subtraction. By the end of the week, they felt pretty confident about the process. After the Thanksgiving break, we’ll continue with one-step equations using multiplication and division.
  • Deep Dive-Deep Dive-  We kicked off our WCDS Zine deep dive this week with a presentation by Dr. Christina Fisanick who presented information on what zines are, how they got their start, and the endless creative possibilities they could use in their own zines.
  • Music w/ Mrs. Chelsey – This week, we spent more time singing and learning sign language for “Silent Night”. We also did a complete dress rehearsal of our Sound Bath Meditation that the kids will be presenting. They have all done such a great job putting this together and I’m so proud of them. It’s going to be beautiful!!
  • Art w/Mr. K: I’m late to the party, but middle school art has been working with washable markers to create watercolor style art work. The subject matter was to take a skeleton and have it do something in everyday life, lol. I know, right. The other goal was to understand techniques with marker and water and see how creative they could be with a commonly white skeleton. Another great thing in class was having a guest speaker, Mandy, who is related to one of the excellent 8th-grade middle schoolers. She works at the M+ museum located in Hong Kong. She spoke about her work at the museum as the Senior Registrar for M+ and what other behind-the-scenes activities happen in museums. I’m pretty excited to get into some digital work after the break, but until then, Great job!
  • Elective w/ Mrs. Boldrick or Mr. McFadden – Design – We started the trimester in design class by designing and making “formal wear” using only trash bags, tape, and staples. Their creations were amazing! We also started a logo design project which involves creating a logo using their first and last initials. We’ll continue this project after Thanksgiving break.
