Lego Robotics:

On Monday, we split into three groups and began assembling practice robots. Students are being paired randomly and assessed on various skills, including teamwork, ingenuity and various components of building/assembling. All of these skills will be considered when choosing groups. Wednesday consisted of designing our new and improved competition board – LEGO LAND! Whether it be the rescue mission to the top of the broken down roller coaster or the ticket booth line, ask your child about the upcoming challenges!

Leadership:

On Tuesday of this week, we dove headfirst into our Leadership unit with Mrs. Rutherford and spent the time focussing on being empathetic listeners to our peers. We discussed the importance of appropriate body language and eye contact, and how interrupting others and responding with “I statements” can make people feel unseen and unheard. On Thursday, Officer John came back for DARE and engaged the fifth grade in some wonderful discussion about how our actions have consequences.
