6th Grade Happenings:

  • English w/ Mrs. McFadden – Students wrote about their Thanksgiving breaks, read from their free choice reading novels, practiced vocabulary and reviewed when to use commas this week. We also learned a little about life in Victorian England to set the scene for our reading of “A Christmas Carol” next week. Many of them are looking forward to the play format and possibly “acting it out”. We also congratulated Vivian Metz and Tesla Joseph for being selected as our class’ “Awesome Authors” by the Ohio County Public Libray. Extra kudos to Tesla who was the winner for all the 6th grade contestants in the county. Congratulations ladies!
  • Foundations of Pre-Algebra w/ Mrs. Murray-We took our quiz Tuesday, after reviewing Monday.  I will return them graded next week, and expect the students to correct and return them to me for half credit.  We had a guest teacher, Mrs. Howells, on Friday, to teach about exponents.  Ask the students what they learned in her class.
  • Music w/Mrs. Chelsey – The students are doing well at getting their parts down on their instruments for “Silent Night”. I appreciate their focus and the hard work will pay off!!!
  • Science w/ Mrs. Farris – An open-book science survey was given that included multiple choice, short and long answers. The “book” they used was their very own science journal that each worked to document their learning in science. To celebrate we had our first harvest of the grow tower. We shared a class salad with spinach, bib lettuce, swiss chard, savoy, and kale and an arugula herb flatbread.
