We continued our novel study of, “Family Under the Bridge” along with looking into the Louvre more closely. Students have enjoyed learning about Paris and other country’s Christmas traditions while practicing their reading skills.

In writing, we are continuing to learn about persuasive writing. We talked about whether or not we should have homework and our favorite foods. The students were able to give detailed insights on their reasonings for their choices, along with having discussions with others with opposing viewpoints.

It is an EGGciting time in 4th grade deep dive! We discovered the five steps of the scientific method with a simple experiment to conclude eggs are porous. Next, we asked, can we make an egg bounce? Students hypothesized and then experimented by placing an egg in vinegar for 48 hours. We began making observations – “It’s like a water balloon! … I see the yolk! … Ours is bigger!” Now it was time to test – does it bounce? Indeed it does. The fascinating discovery filled the room with energetic learners eager to find out why. We concluded the vinegar dissolved the eggshell but could not go through the shell’s membrane. Leading us to learn more about the inside of the egg.

The students completed a holiday-themed break-out room using their 2-digit multiplication skills in math. They are really getting the hang of this process. We moved on to using some geometry skills by plotting points using x and y coordinate pairs. They are graphing mystery pictures using this new skill. We’ll continue with geometry next week as we tie math with learning about I.M. Pei’s glass pyramid at the Louvre in Paris.

In Innovations, students completed their clay tablets. Some crafted their own languages with symbols while others told their story through pictures. They added color as well to make their art pop. Check out the pictures below to see what they came up with!
