6th Grade Happenings:

  • English w/ Mrs. McFadden – This week we finished up “A Christmas Carol” with an ugly sweater representing one of the characters, games, puzzles and a persuasive essay on which of the three spirits was the most influential on Scrooge. There were no Scrooge’s in Middle School however! Thanks to all who donated for our shopping trip to Target. Watching the kids excitement at being able to make someone else’s Christmas extra special would make anyone’s heart grow three sizes bigger.
  • Foundations of Pre-Algebra w/ Mrs. Murray-The class generally did not perform well on their quizzes last week, so I decided that anyone who scored less than a 30 points would be required to retake the quiz next Tuesday.  We reviewed the material and took another pretest.  Friday, we participated in a task card challenge with some candy bars as randomly selected student prizes.
  • Music w/Mrs. Chelsey – We finished putting the finishing touches on our songs that we will be presenting at the Holiday Show. The students have worked very hard and I am very proud of their energy and dedication they have given to this! Every single one of them has an important role in contributing to middle school becoming an ensemble as a whole, and I’m very excited for them to share that on Tuesday evening!
  • Science w/ Mrs. Farris – Students have completed their science in the news research project. As students began to present their articles, the interesting topics sparked great class discussion so much that we did not get to everyone’s presentations. It was great to see many students engaged with their peer’s presentations and learn from each other. We will continue next week!
  • Electives w/ Mrs. Boldrick or Mr. McFadden – Design – The design students worked hard at designing and building the set pieces for the WCDS Holiday Show. They’ve shown their creativity and ingenuity! This week We learned about German traditions. The kids enjoyed making and decorating gingerbread cookies and potato pancakes.
