Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing break. Below are some pictures from the Holiday show. We apologize for the delay in posting the pictures.

We worked on reading, writing, and spelling through Daily 5 to ease the students back into school. Students were split into groups and visited three different stations throughout the day to practice and review previously taught skills. They loved it and even asked to do this activity more often! On Wednesday, January 10th, we will be starting literature circles with the 5th grade class. Students will be split between six different teachers with a mix of both classes. This is a great opportunity for students to read new books and get to know fifth-grade students and other teachers.

We will review math skills these next few weeks to prepare for learning long division. We’ll also be working on money skills and real-life budgeting. The kids always look forward to our money unit as they learn how to total their restaurant bill or how to stay within a budget as they “buy” products.

For our Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 15th, we will be collecting travel-size hygiene supplies to donate to the Freeze Shelter and Youth Services System. Below is a list of travel-size items we are asking to be brought in:

  • shampoo
  • conditioner
  • body wash
  • toothpaste
  • toothbrushes
  • hand sanitizer
  • band-aids
  • Q-Tips
  • individual packets of hand wipes
  • any other personal care items
  • quart-sized Ziplocs to package all the products

You can send them in now through the 15th. Thank you in advance for helping us teach your child the value of service!

What Does Our WCDS Middle School Have to Offer?

Join us on Tuesday, January 23rd at 6:00 pm for Branch Night: Reimagine Middle School…In Color! Families in our community will have the opportunity to hear, see, and feel our wonderful middle school in action. We were excited to see so many of our 4th Grade families join us in the fall for our Reimagine Middle School event. If you weren’t able to make the event in the fall, please put this date in your calendar to visit our WCDS Middle School campus. Invite a New Family to Join WCDS!

Do you know a family that is ready to bring color into their child’s learning journey? Please tell them about the Preschool-5th Grade Prospective Family Day at WCDS! This is an opportunity for new families to discover how we embrace curiosity, creativity, and fearless exploration, transforming education into a vibrant and engaging experience! Share this link with any family you know that may have an interest in WCDS: https://www.wcdsedu.com/event/prospective-family-day-pfd-3/

Winter is upon us! Please make sure all coats/jackets, hats, gloves/mittens, scarves, and any other articles of clothing that may get lost, are labeled with your child’s name. We have MANY lost items in the school lost and found; check out the table at drop off or pick up if you are missing something.

We hope the weather and potential snow/ice storms are kind to us! Have an enjoyable and safe weekend!
