Brrrr! It’s cold! The first snow fall here at WCDS was snow much FUN! The kiddos bundled up in snow gear and headed outside to enjoy the snowy weather.

Again, it may not have been a warm week, but we sure did warm our hearts during our Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. The kiddos were up to their elbows in fleece as we cut and tied our way through 15 blanket kits. Our project continued through the week so that we could continue to spread love and warmth with those in need.

Math time was spent multiplying our way through 8’s facts and more strategies. Students learned how to split eights into fours in order to create partial products; For example 8X6 can be split into 4X6 = 24 and 4X6=24, then 24 + 24 = 48. Another method that students were introduced to was using a “bar model” to multiply; Instead of equal group pictures, students were able to create a repeating strip of numbers that can be added or skip-counted up to equal a product. Ask for a demonstration!

ELA stayed the course with cause and effect relationships. During phonics, students really rocked it with sound bank and definition building activities. Way to go 3rd Grade!!
