Our Last Lit Circle!


Special Note: 

*We are starting our class novel: One Crazy Summer next week. It was on the classroom supply list this summer. Please make sure your child has a copy for Monday. 

Upcoming Dates 

  • February 2 – Fifth grade to middle school for the afternoon for ice skating. Faculty will transport the students to WCDS Middle School. We will eat lunch on the main campus and then depart. Pick up will be at the middle school at 3:00 pm. Any students needing after care will be brought back to the main campus. 
  • February 9 – 12 – Winter Long Weekend. Class will be dismissed at 11:30 am on Friday and resume at 10:00 am on February 13th. 
  • February 14 – Classroom Valentine’s Day Party! 
  • March 1 – Spring Break Begins! Class dismissed at 3:00 pm. 
  • March 10 – Classes resume at 10:00 am. 

Weekly Highlights and Recap! 

  • On Saturday, Emma Cooper dropped off the WCDS animal shelter donations to the Brooke County Animal Shelter! Thank you to Emma for organizing this event, and to all of the students who brought in donations. 
  • On Tuesday, Rosey, Jadon, Lincoln, and Isaac represented the WCDS 5th grade at Math Field Day. Although neither the individuals or the team won overall, they did win the math relay for the 5th grade! We are so proud of their work and representing our school! 
  • Valentine’s Day is approaching! We will do a card exchange on Wednesday, February 14. If your child wants to make a decorated box, he/she may do so and bring it to school. We will not be making Valentine’s Day boxes here in class. No worries if you don’t have the time to make a box! We’ll provide a bag to collect their cards.

Language Arts:

  • We finished our 4th/5th grade literature circles with a celebration and book share
  • Started a grammar unit on VERBS


  • Ask your child to explain PEMDAS!!
  • We took our winter Aimsweb test to see our progress in math and will me monitoring the progress of any and all students needing additional support
  • Starting a unit on FRACTIONS

Lego Robotics 

Our students are really ramping up the excitement level as their coaches continue to practice with them and they get on the table to continue programming their robot to battle the course. The students are scheduled to miss one special a week for individual private practice on the lego table. Collaboration and teamwork are at the forefront of our talks at the moment, as teams decide who’s method is best for traversing the course! 


  • We had our last official class meeting with Officer John
  • We began writing our DARE essay and will have graduation towards the end of February. 
  • Ask your child to see their essay about what they found to be the most influential part of DARE.
