6th Grade Happenings

  • English w/ Mrs. McFadden – We finished our essays on “The Parker Inheritance” and began “From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler” this week. This book is set in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, so we are exploring the met and learning a bit about Michelangelo as well.
  • Science w/ Mrs. Farris – We took advantage of the beautiful weather to take a walk through the park. Students were encouraged to observe signs of spring and hypothesize why maple season is over. Next, we built on our physical and chemical changes to identify what change happens when making maple syrup. Students were quick to recognize that color change and aroma create chemical changes known as the mallard reaction. We ended the week exploring the different colors and tastes of maple syrup.
  • Music w/ Mrs. Chelsey – Students survived their second music quiz of the year, and if you haven’t checked out our Mozart body percussion video, it’s available to watch on the WCDS YouTube channel!! In our final few weeks together, we will be doing a “rhythm scene” project. In small groups, the students will find objects to make sound within specific memorized rhythms to create a “scene” that they will rehearse and present on our last day. I think it will be a lot of fun!
