A Look at Our Week:

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”…for some, it’s Christmas, for some it’s the start of school, but for us at Wheeling Country Day School, it’s Celebrate Week! It truly is a magical week to be on campus.  We all come together as a community to prepare for the big event and complete our classroom auction pieces.  The grownups truly feel like kids again as they get in on all of the action of painting, staining, glittering, and gluing right along with the kids while the kiddos feel a sense of accomplishment in seeing that they’ve made something beautiful with their class to share with all of you! The preschool kiddos and teachers disassembled a boring, old chandelier, added some preschool magic to it, and reassembled it to truly be a reflection of the joy of preschool. The kiddos used alcohol ink to give a stained glass look to some of the crystals. Some were painted and some added glitter. The finishing touch that truly made this piece reflect the spirit of preschool was the addition of self-portraits of each of the children! Our chandelier, Sparkling Self Reflections, is a centerpiece that not only lights up a room but also fills it with the warmth and wonder of childhood.

Forrest- (smiling and staring at it in wonder) It is so beautiful…the gems! I liked making the stucked-together gems.

Scarlett- I love the colors. It’s like a rainbow! I liked doing paint on it.

Dax- It looks so beautiful! I like the ones that are hanging from the bottom best.

Emma- I want to buy it! It’s beautiful like a decorated rainbow. I liked making the pink ones best.

Lucas- I want to buy it, too! Because I just like it and I would put it in my bedroom.

Clara- I liked painting.

Lola- It’s Bea-ti-ful!!!!! (with her sparkly eyes)

Sophie- I think it’s pretty!

Preston- I liked drawing me on it and the colors.

This week, the kiddos also completed their “Hall of Fame” stars that they began last week by adding loose parts of gems, beads, and glitter. We continued sharing books and discussing how we can all be Hall of Famers and All-Stars by being kind and sharing our brightest, truest selves with those around us. Our March self-portraits reflect this sentiment of every preschooler being an all-star. Drawing their little faces atop an Oscar trophy and adding hues of golden watercolor to the backdrop, they were ready for the finishing touch: a photo of them posing as a trophy on a pedestal. We love how amusing and adorable the finished product is!

This time of year … especially this year, allows us all to self-reflect on the “WHY” behind what we do… It always comes down to the same things… Your children and the trust and support of you all allow us to nurture their love of learning. As we gear up to Celebrate a place we all call home, to celebrate Liz and the incredible, joyful, beautiful, and magical community she has built, we would be remiss in not saying Thank You to all of you as well. So whether you are there in person or there in spirit this Saturday, we hope you join us in celebrating the small moments, big moments and all those amazing little moments in between that make this place, the teachers, and most importantly the children, just exactly who they are!

Have a beautiful weekend! We are so excited to “Celebrate” all the little Preschool Hall of Famers on Saturday!
