Welcome 3rd grade families!
We are thrilled to welcome you and your child to third grade! We look forward to working with you and your child this school year!
This week has been nothing short of wonderful as we’ve begun our journey together. We kicked off the year by reading Who You Were Made to Be by Joanna Gaines. This inspiring book helped us understand that our unique differences are what make our classroom family so special. The theme of the book—parachutes and hot air balloons—served as a fantastic metaphor for celebrating our individuality. The students got creative by decorating large coffee filters to make their own parachutes, which they attached to cups. We then took them outside to watch their parachutes soar. It was amazing to see that no two parachutes were alike, just like our wonderful students!
Next, we delved into Miss Nelson is Missing by Harry Allard. This classic story sparked a lively discussion about classroom rules and expectations. The students had the opportunity to contribute to creating our classroom rules, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility. It was heartwarming to see their enthusiasm and commitment to making our classroom a great place to learn and grow for the year.
We also introduced a cherished third-grade tradition: time capsules! Each student answered a series of “my favorite” questions, traced their hand to track how much they’ll grow over the year, and practiced writing their names in cursive—a skill they’ll develop further throughout the year. These time capsules will be a fun way for them to look back on their growth and experiences at the end of the year.
Throughout the week, we’ve focused on getting to know each other better. We couldn’t be more excited about the adventures and learning opportunities that lie ahead.
