An Amazing Transition!

6th

Way to go 6th grade! These kids didn’t miss a beat as the newest class of WCDS Middle Schoolers. We are all so impressed at the way these kids have adjusted to the new campus and life in middle school. They are working hard, and creating a seamless transition! They are enjoying picnics at the playground, skating during wellness, and our first Tuesday at Starbucks!

Please check out the save the date below for an upcoming fundraiser/fun night out! Join us for an evening of BBQ, Boots, and Boogyin’.  It’s the perfect chance for parents to mingle, get to know each other, and kick up their heels!

More details to come, so mark your calendars now.  Yee Haw!

6th Grade Blurbs

English w/ Mrs. McFadden –

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- Students may have homework if they didn’t finish this week during class. Please ask them to check their planners to make sure that they finished and submitted their Paragraph of the Week (POW) and their summer reading projects.
  • Students got creative this week with their summer reading projects. Some made board games, newspaper articles, and fake Facebook posts (on paper) from one of the character’s points of view.
  • We reviewed context clues and tried to find examples during independent reading.

Deep Dive w/ Mr. K & Mr. Rouse – 6th was introduced to their first Deep Dive of the year this week titled Face your Face. We briefly discussed the expectations of the students and explained the difference in how deep dives are run at the middle school. This particular deep dive discusses individual identity and our presence on social media. We just skimmed the surface of identity and will continue to explore the facets of both areas as the semester progresses.

Math w/ Mrs. McFadden

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes –  none.
  • Revied two different types of rounding and estimating
  • Worked to figure out how to differentiate and challenge ourselves with delta math and sudoku.
  • Reviewed multiplication facts with games

Art w/ Mr. K  –

  • Students focused on creating an image representing who they are, followed up with shading with either pencil or colored pencils.

Music w/Mrs. Chelsey –

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes –
  • Started the year with a name rhythm game, where students stand in a big circle and say their name one at a time putting an action or beat to it!
  • – We began a short back-to-school rap that prompted them to rhythmically share something they like to do, what they like about it, somewhere they went this summer, and what they liked about it. We will practice putting these to a beat to share.
  • -Discussed our weekly “Music Journal” that we will keep this year. Every Friday, students will come into class, get their journal folder (which we will be decorating) and write a response to a musical question/idea that will be on the board.

Elective

  • Movie making is off and running!! We have three groups each working on a movie based on their summer vacation.
