Welcome to a new school year JK families! We are so excited to be back “home” with a group of kiddos who are already touching our hearts and making us smile. The shorter days this week helped us ease into the start of a new routine. The students were overjoyed to see friends from last year, as well as welcome new ones to the school. We introduced ourselves through various outlets, including a simple icebreaker with “Our Favorite” questions and several books. What’s Your Name? by Bethanie Deeney Murguia and That’s Not My Name by Annosha Syed helped us understand that names look and sound different, but that is what makes them so unique and beautiful! We invited the students to first explore their names by tracing their letters on our special chalkboard. Rory had the brilliant idea to then erase them as they left for the day using a wet paintbrush. With the names written on large paper, they then traced each letter using loose parts. Scrabble letters were also available to build their names.

Throughout the days we were able to explore the various centers in the classroom, and of course took a trip to the playground. The students have already put their personal touches on parts of the room, adding pops of color to various shelves and furniture pieces. The children We also took part in some of our Specials, including Spanish with Miss Meredith, Drama with Mr. Alex, PE with Mrs. Dodd, Fine Arts with Miss Dena, and Safety Town with Officer John.

We look forward to our first full days together next week! This year is going to be full of so many new adventures and we cannot wait to partake in those journeys with your children.

Have a wonderful weekend!
