Happy Friday! This week I was excited to spend time with the students during the lunch period. I learned about likes and dislikes, but I was amazed at the way each of the eats a Twix bar. I mean seriously, who eats it like an ear of corn? Answer, one of our seventh graders! Any way, here’s what happened this week!
English w/ Mr. Rouse –
- Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- None
- Started our reading of The Giver, nightly questions/summary, and in-class discussion.
- Started looking at sentence structure in our daily warm-ups.
- Wrapped up the week with a Creative Writing day on Friday.
Deep Dive w/ Mrs. Ochap and Mr. Jividen –

- We explored the parts of bicycles
- We used BikeCad to see how changing a bike affects performance
Social Studies w/ Mr. Jividen –

- Media bias chart: What news outlets do you recognize?
- We read two stories about the same event from Fox News and CNN
- Discussed how media bias affects peoples’ beliefs and creation of echo chambers
Science w/ Mrs. Farris –
- Upcoming Tests/Quizzes – Next Thursday, there will be a quiz on the 6 characteristics of life and identification of abiotic/biotic items.
- Is it alive? Students used their new learnings from last week’s lesson to determine if any of the three samples were alive.
- Students tracked their observations of dry samples and then added water. Referencing their notes on the six characteristics of life, they determined that one sample was alive!
- Are viruses alive? We read two scientific articles to gather information to make their opinion open. Next week, students will support their claim with evidence during a class debate.
