Hello!

The energy and enthusiasm from our students have been absolutely contagious! From engaging classroom activities to new friendships blossoming, it’s been a week filled with discovery and growth. We have been inspired by the eagerness and curiosity each student has brought to their learning, setting a wonderful tone for the rest of the year.

Math’s focus was on number sense, which includes all of the forms in which numbers can be represented. We created numbers in standard form, expanded form, and word form. Ask your kiddo if they can show you an example! We also discussed ways to compare and order numbers by creating number lines, one quite literally! A piece of string was hung up, spanning a short distance. The students each wrote a number on a piece of paper, folded it, and hung it on the line in proper order. It was great to watch the students use problem-solving skills in order to successfully complete this task. Well done!

In this week’s phonics lesson, we delved into the “oo” vowel team, exploring its two distinct sounds: the long “oo” as in “moon” and the short “oo” as in “book.” Students engaged in a variety of activities, such as interactive reading exercises, to identify and practice these sounds. By blending fun, visual aids with engaging practice, our young learners gained confidence in recognizing and using the “oo” vowel team, setting a strong foundation for their reading skills. Students were also able to explore Epic, an online reading platform, that is used to encourage reading practice here at school.

We learned so much about how our students spent their summer as we began to wrap up our first writing assignment. Vacations, sports, and family fun were what the students had the most to talk about. That being said, we hope you have a great LONG Labor Day weekend!
