What a fabulous, fun filled, FULL week of school we’ve spent together. We jam packed every day with exciting, new activities! We are already starting to get in the swing of our new routine. Each student knows they have THREE responsibilities they have to take care of as soon as they get to school. As they put their water bottles on the counter, their lunch rock in the hot or cold section, and sign their names in their blue folders we can see their pride and self esteem blooming! We are already so proud of how motivated and determined each of them are.
Going along with the KINDERgarten pledge we started last week, we are continuing to have discussions about how to treat others and how we want to be treated. We love hearing our friends voice their opinions, speak up when they’re upset, and build one another up when they’re in need. They are setting such a beautiful tone for this magical school year ahead!
In phonics we hit the ground running! At the start of the week we introduced the students to our “Big Book of Goodness”. This book is filled with all the phonemic and phonetic skills we need to become good readers and listeners. The students have really enjoyed rhyming words, using our hands to clap two separate words into one (compound words), and so much more. Before we pulled out our pencils and paper we taught the kiddos all magic of skywriting. Ask them how to activate their magic writing utensils and see what they can write for you! After some skywriting success, it was time to put our pencils to the paper and we introduced the class to our buddy the “little man”. He helps us know where our pencils begin and end when we’re writing our letters. The students have been working really hard on forming the proper “c” curve. We like to refer to our friend c as magical because his special curve is the base for all sorts of letters! We will continue to work with him and see what other letters he helps us form next week.
In math we continued putting our pencils to the paper and began working on writing our numbers 1, 2, and 3 properly! Just as in phonics, we use our “little man” to help guide us when we’re writing our numbers. We even took it a step further and brought out the good ol’ chalkboards for a few rounds of “Try, Wet, Dry”. The students had a blast using chalk, paint brushes, and socks (don’t worry, the socks weren’t that smelly) to continue practicing our numbers. We can’t wait to add more numbers to our toolboxes!
We cannot express enough how thrilled we are to spend our days with your kiddos. We are confident that it’s going to be a fantastic year!
Have a great, LONG weekend!!!
