Hello Families!

This week in SK, we kicked off our exciting “Boots for Buses” project! We began by asking the children to brainstorm ideas about what we could transform a boot into and how we might go about it. They came up with the idea of making a wreath!

Xavier  “Using hot glue and buttons.”

Leo “Rainbow paint and buttons. Put the buttons in a straight line.”

Joanna “I would draw a cat.”

“Horse stickers on the boot.” Edna

“Draw a Christmas tree on it.” Hudson

“Paint and stickers. Draw with markers.” Dermot

 “Cat stickers.”  Eileen

“Plants on them. I think pumpkins.” Rowan

“A wreath.” Nora

“Stickers.” Dylan

“Sharpies.” Bradley

“What about paint.” Regina

“Glue gems.” Finn

“Stamp.” Makayla

“I wanna paint it.” Milo

“We can make it a flower pot.”  Mia

After some wonderful and creative discussions, with enthusiasm, we got to work! One side of the classroom is now busy designing a beautiful wreath for the Fall, while the other side is focused on crafting theirs with a winter theme. The children wanted to make a sign to add to the wreathe too. These were the thoughts of what it should say:

“Welcome to Fall.” Regina

“Spongeball. Welcome Fall.” Pierce

“Welcome Friends.” Ollie

“Happy Fall.” Bradley

“Snow.” Milo

“Have fun in the snow.” Ollie

“Good morning Snow.”Regina

“Leaf wreath.” Dylan

“Good morning Sun.” Felix

The library is officially open for business! This week, the children were introduced to our cozy classroom library, and what’s a trip to the library without a good old-fashioned library card? Each child got the chance to design their own personal card, complete with a self-portrait, which added a fun, creative touch. They were absolutely thrilled to put their new cards to use right away! With great excitement, they filled their very own book boxes with books that sparked their interest, diving into stories and adventures of their choosing.

In phonics this week, the children focused on the letter sound “Aa” by creating a fun word web filled with words that start with the “Aa” sound. We also put pencil to paper as they practiced writing the letters c, o, and a.

In math, the children have been working hard to write the numbers 1 through 6. They’ve been using various objects to count and make sure they match the correct number, helping to strengthen both their counting and number-writing skills.

To help build our social-emotional skills this week, we read Llama Llama Time for Sharing by Anna Dewdney. In the story, Llama Llama is learning important lessons about how to share with his new neighbors. After the story, we had a wonderful discussion where the children shared their own ideas on how we can practice sharing in the classroom with our new friends. It was a great way to connect the story to real-life situations.

Have a wonderful weekend!
