- Students are beginning to learn new vocabulary through reading the Wild Robot. Next week comprehension questions will start.
- Learned a new plural rule: words that end in -f or -fe change to -ves.
- Worked on our “Book in a Bag” reports in school. We will continue to work on these but be on the lookout for it coming home as homework as well.
- Help your student be successful by reminding them to keep their Wild Robot packet in “Return to School” at all times.
In Math we:
- Rounded numbers up to the hundred thousands
- Compared large numbers
- Used the symbols for less than, greater than, and equal
- Played games to practice these skills during math stations
In Brainology we:
- Read “The Book of Mistakes” by Corinna Luyken which demonstrated how mistakes can be turned into wonderful learning experiences and new ideas.
In Social-Emotional Learning we:
- Sadly, we did not have a formal SEL class due to the half day on Friday; however, we are always practicing kindness and learning how to have self-control with our emotions.

- We are excited to announce a Musical Field Trip for the 4th grade to watch a rehearsal of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday, September 25th. This is a great opportunity for our students to see and hear live music in our local area. We will be using a school bus from Ohio County Schools for transportation, and depart WCDS at 9:15am and return at approximately 11:30am. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
- We plan to take the 4th and 5th grade students to see The Wild Robot movie on the morning of October 4th. We know that the current 5th graders enjoyed the series last year, and the 4th graders are working hard to finish the book in time to see the movie. We are asking that all children come to school early that day. Please have your child arrive at school by 8:15 on Friday, October 4th. That day is an early dismissal and we plan to return by 11:30 or slightly after. We are asking for each child to pay $10, which includes the movie, popcorn, and a drink. Please send in either cash or check for the $10 by October 3rd.
- Reading for 20 minutes and practicing multiplication facts for 10 minutes are daily homework assignments. Thank you for helping your child develop good reading and math fluency.
- “Book in a Bag” reports may be turned in at any time of the book but the presentation will not occur until September 30th. Please review the packet sent home for guidance on what to complete and how to do so.
