A Look at Our Week:

Our week began with the exciting preparation for our first self-portraits. We started by reading There Is Only One You by Katherine Heling and Deborah Hembrook, which inspired a discussion about what makes each of us special and unique. We explored favorite activities, our distinct appearances, our families, and our personal preferences. Each child took a moment to share their favorite part of themselves, celebrating the beauty of individuality.

  • Evelyn- my hair
  • Avery- My belly! I like to eat.
  • Sydney- I love my earrings!
  • Clara- my hair
  • Ben- My arms. They are the color of my mom.
  • Lenni- my belly
  • Hunter- my mouth
  • Khyryn- my clothes
  • Jackson- my nose
  • Romeo- my shoes because they are fast
  • Archie- my head
  • Isla- my laughing lips
  • Lily- my hair
  • Emma- my belly
  • Atticus- my smile
  • Audrey- my feet and my legs
  • Lincoln- my ears
  • Levi- my legs. They run like monster trucks.
  • Brody- my eyes

Using a variety of loose parts, the children next created beautiful transient art self-portraits. Buttons transformed into eyes, while string became flowing hair, and beans, gems, pom poms, and wooden pieces provided the finishing touches. Once they finished their creations, the kids practiced an important skill: sorting! They did a wonderful job organizing all the loose parts back into their containers, making it easy preparation for the next day. Relaunching loose part faces after sharing All About Faces by La Zoo, the kiddos used the very same loose parts, but added a new element to the mix: glue! The loose parts were added to photographs of their sweet little faces and their first self-portraits were complete.

We wrapped up our week with a hootin’ tootin’ good time: Mini Boots for Buses! The children were absolutely adorable, brimming with energy as they explored our Western-themed centers. Lasso painting, where they dipped strings into vibrant desert paint, was a hit as they looped and swirled across the wide-open plains of paper spread across the table. Our gardening enthusiasts crafted cacti using pots, playdough, and toothpicks, while every cowboy and cowgirl enjoyed a sensory table where they could create their own chili. We ended the day with a lively country western dance party, filling the room with joy and laughter!

Take a look at our boot project photos below! Have you ever painted a boot? Well, your little ones transformed two ordinary boots into stunning lamps! First, they used metallic acrylic paint to add their favorite colors to each boot. Once the paint dried, it was time for some creative flair! The kids embellished their designs with guitar picks, glitter, gems, stones, and glass, giving the boots a delightful preschool charm. Next came the lampshades. The children covered the canvas with vibrant tissue paper, and then the fun began! With spray bottles, they misted…well, soaked the paper, creating a beautiful rainbow of colors. The final creations will brighten up any room and bring smiles to everyone who sees them!

We can’t wait to have just as much fun with all of you this Saturday!

-Meredith, Arden, and Airry
