Hello Preschool Families!

It has been said that we are never more fully alive, more completely ourselves, or more deeply engrossed in anything than when we are playing, so play we did! We used this week as a reset and it proved to be magical!

During Daily Discovery the children delve into letter matching with upper and lower case letters and then strengthened those find motor skills by lacing the letters they matched onto pipe cleaners. In honor of fall, some kiddos created the perfect fall dish with play dough and various fall loose parts. Our resident artists created still life masterpieces of fresh flowers using all the colors of fall. Color matching through paint swatches, liquid water colors, pipettes and lots of squeezing proved to be loads of fun! Block exploration continued to be a fan favorite as they created various structures adorned with color changing lights accompanied by lots of squeals as they took turns knocking the structures down and then rebuilding through teamwork!

The preschoolers wrapped up their self study this week. We revisted our loose part self portraits. They seemed a little lackluster, we were all in agreeance they were missing something! We used various mediums to bring those self portraits to life… COLOR, to represent those vibrant personalties! The kiddos were then given embroidery hoops and tempera paint to create their frames for those adorable faces! The children were also presented with the images of the best part of themselves and were asked to draw those images on white cardstock using black flair sharpies, they did not disappoint! Make sure to stop in and stand in awe of the beauty that is your child, we do multiple times a day and they never fail to make us smile. Lastly, we examined what makes us most special, our kind hearts. We read they story “What Does It Mean To Be Kind?” by Rana DiOrio. The children learned that it’s not the grandest of gestures but many small acts of kindness that change someones day, and really, the world. A smile as you pass a stranger, giving someone a compliment, or celebrating differences will spread like wildfire. The kiddos were then asked what are some things they can do to be kind… here were some of their thoughts:

Sydney – “Help someone when they are hurt”

Brody – “Love everyone”

Evelyn – “Kind words always”

Archie – “Play with everyone”

Avery – “Sharing- because sharing is caring”

Atticus -“Be a good friend”

Levi – “Listening to people”

We then introduced our kindness bucket. We encouraged the children to think about their choices, and to encourage others to be kind. Afterwards, each child was invited to choose a ball to add to the kindness bucket. Our goal is to fill our entire bucket with cotton balls of kindness. In order to do this we will all be watching for random acts of kindness, if we see a friend being kind or we hear kind words, then the child or children will choose a ball of kindness of their color of choice to add to the bucket. If your child does something kind outside of school we are asking for you to share that with us so that we may celebrate this! They have taken this very seriously, and it has been heart warming to watch the excitement of being kind and the bucket fill!

The week got a little extra exciting when we introduced Class Library. Best part was… they all got their very own library cards! We read the story “No T-Rex In the Library” Little Tessa an her mommy visit Library, quiet voices only, correct? Until Tessa lets out a wild roar! Tess resigns herself to a time-out, but finds that she must be the one who has to maintain order when T. Rex leaps from the pages of a book into real life. Books scatter, knights clatter, and a pirate brandishes a sword as T. Rex leads the charge to the stars.  The students all agreed that quiet voices, walking feet and treating books with respect are all a must in a library!

We used this week to listen extra closely to hear what the children are truly interested in and we can’t wait to show you what they “cook up” next! And to think… we learned it through play.

Have a wonderful weekend and take a little time for yourself to play…you’ll be amazed at what you learn!
