“You can’t make a cloudy day a sunny day, but you can embrace it and decide it’s going to be a good day after all” – Jane Lynch

With all the rainy weather keeping us cooped up inside, it could have been difficult to make magic and find joy, but this lovely group made sure that wasn’t the case! Each day may have been gloomy outside our windows, but we made the most of every moment spent together inside and outside the classroom. On Monday when the rain letup for a bit, we decided to have snack outside. While eating snack, we noticed all these large, round things were falling from a tree in the amphitheater. Being the curious bunch that we are, we decided to take closer look at these new “thingymajigs”. Turns out these little balls have names… BUCKEYES. We watched videos about different kinds of buckeyes, where they got their name, and what they’re good for! Ask your kiddos to tell you all about our very first K(now)W(ant to know)L(earned) chart. After watching videos and recording some information we did the fun part… hands on… EXPLORING! We used magnifying glasses and flashlights to examine them even closer, we put them in water and used scoops along with other water tools to see what would happen to them, and we even smashed them with hammers (we used safety goggles, don’t worry)! It was so much fun seeing all the discories the students made in such a short time span. Thursday afternoon as we were smashing what we thought were buckeyes we made a groundbreaking discovery… We also were exploring… WALNUTS!!! You heard that right. Buckeyes AND walnuts. We’ve got a walnut tree and a buckeye tree right next to each other. Creating two similar, yet very different, nuts!!! The kiddos (and us adults) went NUTS over this discovery!!!! We didn’t plan on diving into the world of buckeyes or walnuts, but when we see a spark we fuel that fire because this is what it’s all about. Making core memories, creating opportunities, and embracing new discoveries.

In phonics and literacy we’re continuing to add more sounds and letters to our tool belts. With each day that passes we can see improvement in everyone’s handwriting and willingness to learn. We are so fortunate to have Miss Lori 3 days a week so we can tailor our lessons to support and challenge all of the kiddos. Some are blending words such as: hat, fat, pat and others are writing beautiful, lengthy sentences such as: Hudson hikes hills to the haunted house, but EVERYONE is loving to learn and we couldn’t ask for anything more. In math we are continuing to discuss what gives a shapes its name (its sides and corners) and putting them to use in a round of shape centers! In one of our centers where the students are invited to draw/cut out shapes then label them by sides and corners, we discovered a new shape… a decagon! That’s right. A shape with 10 even sides is called a decagon. We love seeing them light up as they continue adding knowledge to their big brains!

We want to take the time to thank you ALL for signing up for a parent partnership meeting. Every meeting thus far has been nothing short of a testament to all the hard work you all put in. We are truly overwhelmed with appreciation for each and every one of you. Our school family would not be what it is without your endless love and support. We look forward to meeting with the rest of you next week!

Have a GREAT weekend,
Miss Tylar & Miss Gina
