What a wonderful week at WCDS! The students enjoyed visiting with their “Special People” on Thursday afternoon. We heard great conversations happening as the students asked some very thoughtful questions about what their Special Person experienced when they were school-aged. Together with their special person, they wrote a “family recipe.” We noticed that all of their recipes contained lots of love, laughter, hugs, and kindness.

On Friday morning, we enjoyed watching The Wild Robot at the movie theater. “I love this part,” they exclaimed, as the book they just finished reading came to life. What a great experience for them to read the book first and compare it to the movie.

We hope you enjoy the long weekend. Maybe we’ll see you at Oglebay Fest!

Grace and Stella

In ELA we:

  • Finished reading The Wild Robot and completed the comprehension packets.
  • Watched the Wild Robot movie as a class to end our novel study. We will take time to discuss the similarities and differences between the book and the movie next week.
  • Discussed and practiced spelling rules for irregular nouns. Ask your student what the hint is for words such as tooth and goose.

In Math we:

  • Continued doing addition with large numbers to the millions
  • Learned how to align numbers by columns – ones in the ones place, tens in the tens place, and so on.
  • Continued doing addition with more than 3 and 4 addends.
  • Learned how to align multiple addends
  • Next week, we’ll move on to subtraction and subtraction with regrouping

In Government we:

  • Held our first debate! Students were for and against year-round schooling. They gave compelling reasons to their classmates why their belief is the best.
  • Prepared for our upcoming schoolwide election of favorite lunch food!

Important Reminders:

  • Please consider attending our Re-Imagine Middle School Night at our WCDS Middle School on Tuesday, October 15 at 6:00 PM. Meet our middle school teachers and experience WCDS Middle School classes!
  • Ashlee Jividen, our WCDS school therapist, will be hosting a Kindness Crew group with our 4th-grade girls (The boys will have their Kindness Crew group in the spring) on Wednesdays every week. This is a chance for our girls to talk and listen to all things kindness! If you would like your daughter to join this group, please send in the consent that can be found at this link – https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HoaowxjhDcTkYZRPXHUvH3W_8By97lPw/view?usp=sharing

Once in the gallery, you will be able to navigate to your child’s grade and individual folder. Once inside their folder, please select ONE favorite image by hovering over the image and selecting the star. This will mark this image as your favorite. Please refrain from selecting multiple favorite images as only one will be printed with your package. You have until Monday, October 7th at 12:00 pm to select your favorite image.  If you choose not to select an image, I will select the most natural pose for you.
Please note that these photos are only rough edited. Dirty faces and shirts will be fixed (within reason) once you select an image. Thanks!
