Once in the gallery, you will be able to navigate to your child’s grade and individual folder. Once inside their folder, please select ONE favorite image by hovering over the image and selecting the star. This will mark this image as your favorite. Please refrain from selecting multiple favorite images as only one will be printed with your package. You have until Monday, October 7th at 12:00 pm to select your favorite image. If you choose not to select an image, I will select the most natural pose for you.
Please note that these photos are only rough edited. Dirty faces and shirts will be fixed (within reason) once you select an image. Thanks!
If you have an immediate question, please contact me via call or text @ 740-296-9700
If your child was absent for picture day, the make-up day will be Thursday, October 10th. Thank you for trusting me with your wonderful kids!
The best feeling in the world is when you look at a special person and they are already smiling at you. Truer words were never spoken and this week we felt that amazing feeling as we welcomed all of our special people to our classroom and on campus. The students were so excited to have their grandparents and special persons in our space and did a wonderful job showing them all of the learning that they have been doing. Officer John shared a special safety lesson with our visitors, including our giant traffic light and homemade crosswalk. While in the classroom, the children collaborated with their special persons on a paper collage for our outdoor space. With papers in all kinds of shapes, colors, patterns, and textures, each student designed their choices on an acrylic circle. Once the Modge Podge dries, we will be attaching the colorful dots to the fence that joins our space with SK and PS. We thank all of the guests for taking the time to come to WCDS and making some core memories with their loved ones. It truly makes for a day filled with joy and smiles!
Amidst all of the preparation for Special Person Day, the students took on another set of intriguing provocations. Inspired by the play of the children during Daily Discovery and at the playground, we created a “shop” on one side of our classroom. With shelving, loose parts, various containers, whiteboards, and our tap lights, the students took turns making a shop of their choice. We had “Rough Riders Burgers”, menus with drinks choices and lots of soup, sauces of various kinds, salads, and even a Lego phone to take orders. It was fantastic to witness the amount of communication and collaboration happening amongst the small groups.
As this group seems to love to build, we challenged the students with a tricky STEAM challenge in which they had to create a tower using our foam and wooden blocks but with an extra element…shaving cream! Using it as mortar, we saw an array of structures being “glued” together and then covered more so with the foam. However, it wouldn’t be right to have shaving cream without getting our hands a little (or a lot) messy!
That soapy smell combined with the aroma of vinegar in our potions provocation made the room smell squeaky clean. Do you know what happens when you mix vinegar with baking soda? Well, the kiddos certainly do and couldn’t get enough of the fizzy explosions that occurred. We saw colors erupting as colorful vinegar was added to cups of baking soda, but not without the anticipation that it might spill over at any moment. Sprinkle a bit of glitter on top and you have some magical potions that could turn any zombie back into a human and so much more. Here is what some of the students had to say:
“They change you into a frog or an elephant!” -Sophia
“Mine turns you into a ball so you roll really fast!” -Dax
“It turns you into a tooth fairy!” -Kipton
“Turns you into a monkey.” -Mylah
Our JK Superheroes corner is now filled with colorful capes, personalized portraits, and the superhero figures the students made last week. Don’t forget the captivating names that each student chose for their secret identity! Donut, Rosie, Lightning Bolt, King Cobra, Iceman, and Moonlight Amelia are just a few of the heroes that have made their appearance in our classroom. The peg people became the focal point of some small world play. Our doll house, smaller pallets, and light projections helped create an intricate scene of good versus bad. “There’s a tornado coming closer to the house, tornado coming!” sounded on repeat as one group used their heroes to help save our dollhouse people from a wild tornado. Not only was the tornado happening via projector, but also in 3D by our friend, Rory, as he spun round and round! We just love seeing the children’s creativity and imaginations run wild!
To top off the week, we explored the letter Ll. The students were happy to add so many of their friends’ names on our word webs and to only have to use lines to write the uppercase and lowercase. We also introduced the numbers 1 and 2, practicing counting using one-to-one correspondence and writing them.
We hope you enjoy your long weekend and the first signs of Fall! See you on Tuesday!
