“Time is of the essence.” This week, we’ve been working on time management and the students’ awareness of time. While we don’t want rushed work, we do want our students to be aware of how long it takes to complete an assignment and also do their best work. Time management helps build responsibility and independence. Having a sense of time helps with studying and reduces stress as assignment due dates approach. We’ll continue to work with the students on this very important skill.

Please read on to learn more about what we did this week.

Have a great weekend!

Stella and Grace

In ELA:

  • Students completed their first Knowledge Check! These comprehensive checks will take place when we are wrapping up new skills across multiple subjects. They did a wonderful job and you should be proud!
  • They started to review contractions and flew through their pre-assessment with flying colors! We will continue to review this spelling skill before moving on to the next.
  • Memoirs are quickly wrapping up! Stay tuned for highlights of the students sharing during “Author’s Chair.”
  • Students are continuing to read, “The Mysterious Benedict Society.” Character traits, vocabulary, and making connections are just a few of the skills they are learning.

In Math:

  • The students moved on from addition to subtraction. We started with smaller numbers in the hundreds and are moving into larger numbers, eventually reaching numbers in the millions.
  • Students are using “Borrowing” or “Regrouping” to solve subtraction equations.
  • They played a math dice game to subtract down from 500 to 0. Have your child teach this very simple game to you; it’s a fun way to practice subtraction skills.
  • Next week, students will learn how to check their work using the inverse operation (addition to check subtraction). They will also use regrouping with numbers containing zeros.

In Government:

  • Students are being divided into groups to spread the word around campus about their upcoming election! They will be designing lessons to teach the other grades about the voting process.
  • Students also deciding on their jobs for the upcoming election and are also awaiting to hear what candidate they will be representing.

In Brainology:

  • The students met in groups to begin planning their growth mindset lessons. Each group will teach another class about all that they have learned during Brainology. They are excited to become student teachers.
