Autumn Greetings!
In math, we tackled addition and subtraction word problems, helping students develop their problem-solving skills in engaging ways. Their favorite way was “coffee shop mode!” This is where the room became our very own Starbucks! Students were served juice and a mini donut. While eating they needed to grind as if we were in a coffee shop! This week in phonics our students explored the fascinating sound of /s/ that also says /z/, as in the word “rose.” We continued our journey through “I Survived Hurricane Katrina,” and it’s wonderful to see their brains swirling with questions, which is a great sign of building comprehension and fluency! In writing, students were introduced to the basics of memoir writing, focusing on exciting or important events in their lives. Over the weekend, please encourage them to choose an event to write about. During our deep dives, we explored the world of WV Tourism. The students were “ooh-ing” and “aah-ing” over the wild and wonderful places waiting to be discovered right here in good old WV! In zoology, students were treated to another round of animal visitors as we welcomed a pair of turtles into our classroom. Did you know that turtles belong to one of the oldest groups of reptiles – Testdudines – dating back to the time of the dinosaurs? Isn’t that amazing!?
