Silence was golden in phonics as we worked with the silent letters WR, PH, KN. Words like “write,” “phone,” and “kneel.” While working on writing, memoirs took a new,exciting, and suspenseful turn. Students learned how to EXPLODE THE MOMENT! Ask your kiddo if they can tell you what that means.
Math expanded on subtraction across zeros as we focused on using money amounts. Students looked at examples of price tagged items and menus. We selected 2-3 items and added the amounts to reach a total. Then students had to select a higher amount of money that would cover the total. The last step was to subtract and figure out how much change to give, detailing the bills and coins needed.
We wrapped up our book study of I Survived Hurricane Katrina. Students developed better tracking skills (“reading strips” and “reading fingers”) as they read aloud. We heard great expression as students read through each exciting chapter. Ask them some questions about Katrina; They’re noggins are swirling with new knowledge!
Kiddos continued to marvel over wild, wonderful WV as we explored notable landmarks. One in particular that excited everyone were the National Road markers; So many of us see them on the way to school every day! During our Zoology deep dive, we expanded on last week’s peek into habitats. Some examples ranged from forest to grassland and tundra to desert. The natural world contains so many wonderful homes!
