CLICK HERE FOR UPCOMING WCDS EVENTS
It’s December! There are a lot of fun and exciting things happening now until the end of the year. Here is a message from Mr. Alex regarding the holiday show:
We are excited about our holiday show, and the students have been working hard at work to learn their songs! Please have your child wear these outfits the night of the performance on 12/18 at 6:00 pm. Children should show up at 5:30 and proceed to classrooms. 2nd grade will be singing Jingle Bell Rock. They will need to wear holiday pajamas, and a hat is optional. Thanks!
Here are some announcements specific to second grade:
December 11th– Pajama Day and game day
December 18th– Holiday Show- Please practice your Twas the Night Before Christmas Lines!
We started lots of new things this week! We learned the /ou/ sound in phonics. In writing, we read the story, The Snow Globe Family. The students are now working on a writing assignment where they are trapped in a snow globe! They have a decision to make: will they stay there or try to escape!? In math, we continued with regrouping. The kiddos are working on problems where they have to decide to regroup or not to regroup (that is the question!)
During kids in the kitchen, the children made a Christmas cranberry salsa. To our surprise, the majority of them loved it! It was a little tart but they referred to it as a “healthy sour patch kid”. they loved getting into the Where Do Bananas Come From book and looking up the healthy benefits of cranberries.
The children loved deep dive this week. Continuing the conversation with satellites, the children had to think of a problem that we currently have here on Earth and create a satellite to solve that problem. They first did a write-up and drawing of their satellite labeled with all the essential parts. The children then used loose parts and recyclables to create their satellites with their partners.
Wesley – “The thrusters launch it.”
Joseph – “The computer sends pictures back to Earth.”
Bennett – “Our satellite helps scientists study the stars.”
Lena – “The antenna sends it all to Earth.”
Hudson – “Our satellite’s name is Penguin 3000.”
Josh – “The power source absorbs power from the sun.”
Cece – “The antenna is for signal in space.”
Allie – “The computer takes the pictures from the camera and the antenna sends it down to Earth.”
Greyson – “If someone gets an alert it will spread that notification.”
Everett – “Our satellite helps meteorologists know if there are tsunamis.”
Cooper – “The thrusters are what makes it able to move around in space.”
Nathan – “My satellite helps cars get to their destination.”
Harvey – “Our satellite gives small towns wifi.”
Lennon “Our satellite’s name is Tina.”
Tharen – “Ours can predict when lighting is about to happen.”
Have a great weekend!
