Hello Preschool Families!

The holiday spirit could be felt in every corner of our classroom this week! The magic of your children was palpable as we prepared for their special evening with their most favorite people!

During Daily Discovery the children explored all the wonders of Christmas. The floor became a wrapping station supplied with blocks, tape, scissors and wrapping paper. The children excitedly used those fine motor skills and got to cutting and wrapping “gifts”. Shouts of “do you know where the scissors are” and “have you seen the tape” could be heard, it felt like we were in our very own living rooms. Tubes and ornament bulbs provided loads of giggles and fun as they worked to balance them on top of each other. Some children gravitated towards the number trees where they identified the number on the “tree trunk” and used various loose parts to decorate the trees with said number. Letters to Santa were a huge hit as the children clamored back and forth about what they were asking for, and then stuffing those letters into our classroom mailboxes. Magnetiles, jingle bells and multi colored dome lights became gingerbread houses, trees, and really anything else you could imagine. Peppermint scented playdough, fresh pine, cookie cutters and loose parts transformed into a holiday bakery for others. Even Avery exclaimed “Is this Santa’s workshop?” They were the cutest elves in town!

Our days were spent working on adding all the finishing touches to our classroom for the big night. Colorful trees, beaded pipe cleaners, water colored coffee filters and cd’s painted and glittered were diligently created by your children and became the beautiful garland that sparkled and adorned our ceiling. The children decorated and designed their candle holders for their tea lights for their special performance as well. In Spanish Miss Meredith introduced them to the Poinsettia and the history behind it. We read the story Zetta the Poinsettia, the story of the Poinsettia who finds her worth during the holiday season, but when the lights are turned off, the tree is taken out, the hot cocoa is no longer needed, she wonders what will become of her. Will she still have a reason to be? Then quickly learns that with love, kindness, warmth and care, she has so many reasons to be as she continues to bloom. The kiddos then created their very own still life drawings of a poinsettia using red, green, and black oil pastels, water colors, and best of all, glitter and glue!We hope you got a chance to see them Thursday evening! wrapping up the week we read the story Pick a Pine Tree a story that retells and embraces the magic of Christmas … TRADITIONS. This fun rhyming book was a festive celebration of family, friends and the holiday season and the tradition. After that, we were ready for a Winter Family Night, the day had finally arrived!

Winter family night was exactly what we envisioned, excitement, smiles of joy, warm hearts and the magic of Christmas through the eyes of your children. We have watched as your children went from nervous newcomers to confident learners, navigating their surroundings and friendships. Learning along the way, that a kind word goes a long way. Our story we read was a beautiful reminder that “When life gets dark as winter’s night, share some kindness, bring some light”. Light doesn’t come from gifts, it comes from a kind word, a smile, a good joke, a helping hand, and if you’re lucky enough, from 20 children who bring magic, laughter and utter joy daily. A constant reminder that on the darkest of days, kindness and love can bring light in the most important place, our hearts. We hope that you felt that same childlike joy and magic that you once felt as you bounded down the stairs during Christmas through the eyes of your own children, we sure did.

We hope you find a little extra light this weekend!
