Sets, Salads, and Sounds of the Season

6th

Middle school has been a buzz of creativity. Sixth graders worked to design some amazing elements of the set for the winter program. They harvested lettuce from the grow tower to make scrumptious salads, and they painted up a storm during deep dive, art class, and design while the sounds of the winter program filled the rooms.

The “Middle School Winter Concert”, will be held this coming Monday, December 16th at 6:00 on Main Campus. Students will need to report to the community room at 5:30 and wear all black!
English w/ Mrs. McFadden –

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- none
  • We continued to read “A Christmas Carol” and unpack the unfamiliar words and phrases from Victorian times. After each scene we watch either the “Muppet’s Christmas Carol” or “Mickey’s Christmas Carol”, which helps bring to life that difficult language. Then students compare and contrast elements from the movies and the play.
  • Students did an outstanding job on their Greek roots quiz!

Math w/ Mrs. McFadden

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- none
  • Students completed the chapter four progress check and made corrections.
  • Rather than introducing the second half of unit four, we have decided to use these last days before break to review and solidify concepts they have learned in the first half of the year. Students are thrilled because review days often include games and puzzles! They have also begun to use their cardboard cabins as workspaces. We love peeking in the roof and seeing a group nestled inside doing math!

Deep Dive w/ Mrs. McFadden & Mr. K –

  • We began learning about Norse mythology. Students are researching creatures from Norse mythology and creating slideshows and canvas to present their findings to the class. We are beginning to recognize the lasting impact these ancient stories have on many of our modern day movies and books.

Science w/ Mrs. Farris –

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes –
  • The students completed a mini research project on foodborne illnesses, going beyond a simple Google search for answers. Instead, they were introduced to the importance of identifying reliable sources of information. This project used trusted references such as the CDC and fightbac.org to gather accurate, evidence-based information.
  • Then, they creatively applied their findings by developing a short story and character based on the microorganisms they studied while enjoying a class salad.

Music w/Mrs. Chelsey –

  • We are ready and excited to share our “Winter Concert” with you!!! I am so very proud of all of the work the students put into this. They have come together as a choir and ensemble in many different ways and it shows!! We hope you enjoy the show!
  • Our music journal prompt this week was: Please reflect upon the music you have made for our winter concert!
