Information pertaining to 3rd grade:

  • If you’d like to support your child in their Goods and Services project, please click here.
  •  Monday will be a casual/dress warm day for our MLK Jr. Day of Service. If they have warm WCDS apparel, please wear that on Monday for our service day projects. As the weather forecast is predicted into the single digits and negative numbers for next week, your children are permitted to wear casual warm clothing to school for the entire week.

Reading Bowl:
This week, we officially started our Reading Bowl, and our students have already read an impressive 2,092 minutes collectively! What an amazing start! Keep up the great work as we head into the second quarter. Let’s see if we can hit even more minutes next week!

Phonics Fun:
In phonics, we’ve been reviewing all the ways to say the sound /o/. Our key sentence this week was: “Go home on a boat with Joe in the snow.” How fitting, right? The students did a wonderful job practicing these sounds and applying them to their reading and writing.

Writing:

In writing, students have started learning the “How-To” writing process. To help them understand it better, we asked them to write instructions on how to make a PB & J sandwich. On Monday, we had a fun demonstration with Miss Hanna and Mrs. Buck’s kitchen! The kids had a blast watching and participating. Next week, students will pick their own topics and begin writing their own “How-To” pieces!

Math:

In Math, we continued practicing multiplication concepts. Students used various manipulatives to create equal groups, arrays, and bar models; A bar model is another way to show how equal groups fit together to make the product.
