The second grade will have their Valentine’s Party on 2/14. Children are welcome to bring in boxes and paper valentines! We will make their class treat during kids in the kitchen!

Third grade will be hosting Market Day on Friday, February 21st! On this day, five student-run stores will be set up, offering a variety of homemade items for sale: bookmarks, bracelets, dog treats, energy snacks, and pencil cases.  Prices will range from $1 to $3. All proceeds will go toward supporting a local charity, and we would greatly appreciate your support! Please send your child small bills if they choose to participate. Thank you for helping make this a successful and meaningful experience for our students.

This week, we had so much fun learning about the two different “ow” sounds in the word *snowplow*! We discovered that “ow” can make a long “o” sound like in *snow* and a different sound like in *plow*! Ask your child to find words with both sounds at home!

Our class has been working hard on telling time! We practiced reading clocks to the hour, half-hour, and quarter-hour. Next week, we will take it a step further and learn to tell time to the minute! Keep practicing at home by asking your child what time it is throughout the day.

We are wrapping up our memoir writing, and it has been such a joy to read about special moments through the eyes of our young authors. Their stories are full of heart, humor, and wonderful details. We can’t wait to share them!

Up next, we will be learning how to compare and contrast! We will explore how things are alike and different and use those ideas to write about them. This will be a great way to build our critical thinking and writing skills!

Our geography studies took us on an exciting journey from our classroom to the world! After learning about different locations, students worked in groups to create nesting boxes representing where we live—from our town to our continent. Next, we will zoom in and focus on learning more about our community!

There will be no school on Friday or Monday. We will see everyone back on Tuesday with a 10:00 AM start time! Enjoy your long weekend!

Have a wonderful weekend!
