• Baking Show and Share: Please send in a photo of your child baking or with a favorite birthday cake or family dessert. Often desserts are at the center of special moments or holiday celebrations. Think Christmas cookies, Thanksgiving pies, Sunday cinnamon rolls, or that Elsa birthday cake they wished for! This will be a chance for the children to share a special time in their life when they created or enjoyed a memorable dessert. You can send in a photo by Monday, February 17th through Talking Points, email, or even send in a hard copy. Thank you for your help and for sharing a special memory with us!

Dear JK Families,

“To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides.” -David Viscott

While the sun might not have been shining much the last few days, we still felt the warmth and fuzzies for each other in our classroom. This week was all about exploring love and preparing for our class celebration. To share the love that we have for our families, each student carefully drew hearts on their choice of colored paper. They were then invited to decorate their hearts with an assortment of loose parts, including pom poms, stickers, confetti, yarn, and of course, glitter! To help us add a little extra something to our bouquets, we read Share Your Love by Susan B. Katz. This is how JK shares love…

“By saying thank you.” -Dax

“Giving people hugs and being kind to your Mom and Dad.” -Scarlett

“Giving kindness.” -Heidi

“Loving my mommy.” -Bradford

“Sharing love and giving cards to loved ones.” -Forrest

“Giving people kisses.” -Bria

“By giving healthy stuff and staying healthy.” -Henry

“Giving love to people.” -Kipton

“Uhh giving hearts to people.” -Mylah

“Um share toys with your friends.” -Bodhi

“Uh give flowers to your mom and dad.” -Ollie

“By holding the door for somebody.” -Lucas

“By telling someone that you can play with them.” -Lola

“Cooking with momma.” -Hailey

“Spending time.” -Hunter

“Sharing” -Izaak

Couldn’t your heart just burst?! These thoughts were added to the “flowers” after they were wrapped up in tissue paper and ribbon. We hope you love them as much as we do!

We continued to share our love by making some beautiful homemade valentines using cards, shiny heart confetti, stickers, and marking tools. The students carefully wrote sweet nothings and designed each Valentine with intention and thought. When they weren’t making cards, we invited them to explore a big batch of Valentine play dough. The room smelled like a bakery again as the strawberry and vanilla scented dough was adorned with conversation heart candies, wooden hearts, foam stickers, and our rollers. We had everything from heart cookies to burritos to pepperoni rolls. We cannot wait to get back to our classroom bakeshop next week to keep their interest going!

The best part of the week was getting to celebrate together. The Valentine’s boxes were amazing and full of creativity! We just love seeing how proud the children are of their craftiness. Each one carefully passed out their special cards and treats for their friends, admiring each box with love and care. We shared a special snack and then partook in some fun holiday centers. We made baking soda hearts fizz using vinegar and pipettes, tried our hand at successfully landing a ring on the love octopus’ tentacles, traced doilies and giant hearts on large wall paper using our overhead projector, and snapped some pretty epic photos of each other using a Polaroid camera, good old-fashioned disposable cameras, and an Ipad on our tripod. It was so fun watching the kids try out each camera and the poses were both hilarious and fantastic!

We ended the week by reading The Night Before Valentine’s Day by Natasha Wing. The students loved the retell of the classic Christmas poem and were inspired to paint a little red heart on their faces.

We hope you felt the love from your kiddos as much as we did this week. It was truly something special!

Have a lovely weekend!
