“Cover your mouth!”

2nd

Anyone want to guess how many times we said that this week?!?

All jokes aside, lots of great learning took place in second grade!! We explored more suffixes and learned how to make words plural. Did you know that we only add -es after words ending in ch, sh, x, s, and z? It was a fun discovery! In writing, we practiced comparing and contrasting and began a character analysis. The children chose a character from Humphrey and discussed how they have changed since the beginning of the series.

In math, we introduced rounding using the hill method—ask your child to show you at home! We also revisited regrouping because if you don’t use it, you lose it!

Unfortunately, we didn’t cook in Kids in the Kitchen this week due to some pesky germs. Instead, we had a great discussion about whole foods—what they are, why they’re important, and how they support our brains and bodies. The kids then created their own balanced meal plans for a day using whole foods from each food group!

For our deep dive, we took a closer look at types of communities. The children shared what their communities are like and explored the different elements that make up a community.

It was a fantastic week of learning and discovery!
