Hello Preschool Families!
As we continue to explore babies, families and the care and love that goes into those roles, we needed to take a minute to remember to not only love those around us, but to most importantly… love ourselves! With that thought in mind, we created our February self-portraits. The children continued to work on letters v & m to make their heart shape and then drew those beautiful little faces we know and love so much, using black sharpie flairs on watercolor paper. Next, we created a stunning background using aluminum foil to create a wrinkled texture effect then used purple, pink, and red markers to make a design on the foil, the kiddos used spray bottles to add moisture to the foil, lastly they pressed a white sheet of paper into the textured surface creating a one of a kind design as the color transferred onto their paper. The kiddos were amazed!
On Wednesday we read the story When I was Little A Four -Year-Old’s Memoir of Her Youth. It captures the simply joyous celebration of herself and growing up! We asked the children to think back to when they were babies themselves and to think of the things they once did or did not do as a baby… here were some of their thoughts on reflecting back to their youth! Lots of giggles were had as we shared…
Evelyn- “When I was little mommy tickled me and I had baby socks.”
Avery- “When I was little my mommy and daddy put me in my bed.”
Lily – “When I was born mommy had to change my diapers.”
Clara- “When I was a baby I would stick out my tongue at my mommy.”
Atticus- “When I was little they built me a bunk bed.”
Archie – “When I was a baby I had a diaper on, not underwear!”
Audrey – “Momma would feed me my bottle.”
Isla – “When I was a baby I would drink a bottle and use a binkie.”
Levi- “My mommy would give me so many hugs when I was a baby.”
Lincoln – “When I was a baby I pooped on mommy’s belly!”
Brody – “When I was a baby I had tiny shoes in my room.”
Roman – “When I was a baby I used to poop on a little potty!”
Afterwards the children were invited to various baby centers. Some chose baby washing, the aroma of Johnson’s baby wash filled the classroom, as they “rubba dubbed” as Hunter fondly told us, and then dried and wrapped their babies up. Others gravitated to bottle making, measuring cups, jars and bowls filled with “milk” (water and white liquid watercolor), the children dumped and filled bottles, identifying the numbers on the bottles, continuing to build on number recognition and fine motor skills. Others practiced caring for their babies, doing well checks, using tape measures they measured their dolls, they took turns weighing their babies, checked their heart beats, examined their eyes and ears, making sure to mark their “charts”. They took on each responsibility very seriously and with loving care!
On Thursday we read All the Families and discussed how all families are different and what does that look like? Some are the babies of the family and some are the oldest of their families. They clamored with excitement telling us who is the baby of the family and the people who make up their families!
To wrap up the week our extended day kiddos had a special visit from some of the 4th grade students and their baby chicks they hatched in science a few weeks ago. Going along with how we care for babies, we must do the same for the baby chicks, being gentle, loving, kind and quiet when caring for them. They put those skills into practice when gently petting the chicks. Thank you to fourth grade for sharing!
We hope your little loves show you extra love and care like they do those babies this weekend!
