UPCOMING DATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Hello SK Families,
This week brought yet another stretch of crazy weather! What’s up with that groundhog’s shadow?? Either way, spring is just around the corner!
February and March are exciting months on campus as each classroom begins preparing for our school wide event, Celebrate! This year’s theme is inspired by the story Alice in Wonderland. In SK, we read the story to the children to spark their curiosity and creativity as they begin working on a special “timely” art project. Using a splash of paint to tint the glue of their choosing, they explored mixing and layering different colors. The children also came up with the idea to add rainbow beads and glitter to make this project truly shine!
We wrapped up our Ohio vs. West Virginia study, and what a journey it has been! Each child selected a landmark, and we explored fun facts about each one. As we read and discussed, we asked the children what they liked most about their chosen landmark. Their responses were unique:
The B&O Railroad: “Electric elevators??!! Every time you go in it shocks you.” I like it because it’s golden and shiny red.” – Finn
The Suspension Bridge: “I’ve been over the suspension bridge. It’s a very old bridge. I like what it looks like.” -Griffin
Green Bank Observatory: “I like the tower. The ladder that leads to there and there and here. I don’t really know where it leads to… It’s kind of suspicious. They actually have a thing for the guys to like stand on. The tower.” -Feeli
Seneca Caverns: “I like that it’s so old. It’s 450 million years old and that’s like a really long time ago from ancient times. That’s cool. This might be where kings could be and died then was buried like maybe in here.” -Pierce
We had an exciting week filled with collaboration across grade levels! We visited a one-of-a-kind shop called Market Day in Third Grade, where the children explored homemade items to buy. Then, Fourth Grade stopped by to share their deep dive project— chickens! They gave a fantastic presentation on the life cycle of chickens and even taught us how to properly hold and pet them. But the most exciting fact of all? We learned that chickens are descendants of dinosaurs!
Our math minds were introduced to “G-Allon” the gallon man! The children loved talking about how a gallon can be broken down into quarts, pints, and cups! We played a fun game called, Will… it… Fit?!?! *in our best Mikey Day, host of Is it Cake, voice*. The kiddos were thrilled as they guessed if the rice, water, salt, and flour would fit in various sized containers. We can’t wait to expand on this unit of measurement next week!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Miss Gina and Miss Tylar
